Course overview

Overview

Clinical ultrasound has made a significant positive impact on patient care in many areas, including surgery, critical care, and emergency medicine. More and more healthcare professionals, like those in primary care, nursing, and physiotherapy, are now using clinical ultrasound to help their patients.

The Specialist Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound (Practical) is designed especially for healthcare professionals who want to become skilled in point-of-care ultrasound. It offers the flexibility to choose subjects that fit best with your specific clinical interests and needs. This practical version of the certificate includes a strong online learning component to build your knowledge, along with hands-on activities to help you develop your skills in taking and understanding ultrasound images, and then using those findings in your patient care.

This course might even be reimbursed as Continuing Medical Education (CME). Our clinical ultrasound courses are unique, being the only fully online Australian university courses that can help you earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points while working towards an official qualification!

Who is the Specialist Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound (Practical) for?

This course is for all healthcare professionals who are interested in clinical ultrasound, no matter your current experience or how much you know already.

It's valuable for emergency doctors, internal medicine doctors, anaesthetists, intensive care specialists, surgeons, cardiologists, general practitioners, rural doctors, and other healthcare professionals who are looking for a structured way to bring these important skills into their daily work.

Importantly, for this course, you MUST have access to either ultrasound simulators or actual ultrasound machines. This is because you'll need to upload images and keep a logbook of your ultrasound examinations as part of your assessments.

If you're an enrolled student, you can choose to reserve ultrasound simulators at the University of Melbourne. However, please keep in mind that completing all your practical sessions using simulators depends on their availability.
