This innovative online course is ideal for data scientists, medical technologists and healthcare professionals interested in seeking to understand how to implement machine learning systems.
Healthcare data analysts, medical AI researchers, clinical informatics specialists, and bioinformatics scientists – as well as professionals involved in seeking a career in product development and quality management will all find this course particularly useful.
Learners are expected to have:
- completed a bachelor’s degree or have equivalent levels of professional experience in a healthcare related area, and
- demonstrable understanding of programming and machine learning concepts, or
- completed MMC1 Foundations of AI in Healthcare and/or MMC2 Introduction to Machine Learning in Python and/or MMC3 Advanced AI techniques in healthcare and/or have attained the equivalent knowledge and skills through other channels.
This micro-credential will advance your knowledge of Medtech, with a specific focus on machine learning. You'll gain the essential tools and strategies to start building machine learning solutions for clinical research, patient care, and report analysis.

By the end of this course, you'll have the expertise to design and use custom AI tools that address real-world healthcare challenges:
You'll be able to:
- Design and implement custom machine learning model(s) using popular Python based machine learning frameworks
- Apply custom machine learning and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) ready solution(s) to tackle a complex real-world problem.
This micro-credential runs over six weeks.
Your total time commitment will be approximately 42 hours, which includes:
- 10 hours guided learning
- 10 hours self study and peer learning
- 22 hours for assessment tasks
Assessment:
- Machine learning: from research to code: Use Juptyer notebook to reproduce and implement an existing custom machine learning model using a popular framework (30%)
- Machine learning model design: Design and implement your own custom machine learning model to tackle a complex real-world healthcare problem (70%).
Build Custom AI Tools for Healthcare is part of the AI for Health Professionals series, which provides a pathway (known as advanced standing ) into the following graduate courses:
