What you will learn

Participants will develop practical skills and receive assessment tools they can integrate into clinical practice from day one.

Women experiencing chronic and complex pain, particularly pelvic pain, often face significant barriers to diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care. These barriers can delay effective management, add to patient distress, and make it harder to access the right support at the right time. Designed for clinicians in response to the 2024 Inquiry into Women’s Pain, Supporting Women with Complex Pain is a professional development course delivered through a blend of online learning and a one-day in-person workshop.

Participants will develop practical skills and receive assessment tools they can integrate into clinical practice from day one.

  • Understanding pain through a biopsychosocial lens

Explore how biological, psychological, and social factors interact to shape pain experiences, and learn to apply the biopsychosocial model across clinical settings.

  • Improving experiences of care

Identify what helps and hinders good communication and patient experience, and build culturally safe, trauma-informed practice.

  • Supporting access to care

Understand the barriers patients face, map multidisciplinary pain management pathways, and learn to apply current best-practice recommendations for assessment, early intervention, and patient education.

Who you will learn from

A multidisciplinary team of experts led by Dr Naomi Holbeach, Gynaecologist and Academic Lead for Learning and Teaching in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health

Dr Naomi Holbeach
