Eligibility

Each graduate research course has minimum entry requirements that you must check and meet before applying. Check the details on the course page to learn what these are.

Minimum entry requirements help ensure you’re academically prepared and have a strong chance of succeeding in your course.

Meeting minimum entry requirements means you're eligible to be considered for graduate courses, it doesn't guarantee you will be selected.

English language requirements

Each graduate research course has a specific English language standard you must meet. The required scores are published on each course page.

As an international graduate research applicant, you'll need to show evidence of your English language proficiency through previous study in English or by taking an approved English test.

Visa requirements

All international students require a student visa to undertake graduate research study at the University of Melbourne.

With an Australian student visa, you can only take full-time study in a CRICOS-registered course. You also need to have met character requirements and any additional health tests, and have acceptable Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

You apply for your visa after you receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). First, submit your course application.

How you're selected

The selection panel will consider a range of factors when assessing your application, including eligibility, prior academic performance and other criteria.

Selection information is published in Handbook and on each course page.
