Creative tasks and timeline
To be considered for selection into the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) , you need to submit a course application and prepare a folio. If you are shortlisted, you will then need to attend a callback audition.
Prior training in contemporary dance and other techniques is highly recommended.
Start year intake 2027 timeline
What to prepare
The folio involves uploading three separate short video files:
- Short introduction talking to camera
- One-minute solo
- Set movement phrase
Detailed video audition guidelines will be available in the Creative Application Platform (SlideRoom) when applications open in August.
Personal statement
Please provide a personal statement explaining why you are applying for this course (maximum 500 words).
Tips for recording
- Perform in a safe environment and use the space you have available to you – ideally on a smooth floor in a volume of space with no obstacles. Understandably, not all applicants may have access to a large dance space.
- It is not an expectation that you access or purchase additional recording equipment beyond a basic smartphone, iPad, or laptop/desktop device. For smartphones, many recent models already have very good microphones built in.
- Make sure you are well-lit and can be seen clearly. You may wish to ask a friend or relative to record you or use a tripod or video stand.
- Always keep your head and feet in the video.
- Do not use filters or effects – keep editing to a minimum.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a group workshop and interview.
Callbacks will be conducted at the Southbank campus and additionally online via Zoom for those unable to attend in person.
You will not be advantaged, nor disadvantaged, in selection by attending either an on-campus or an online callback audition.
How to submit your selection tasks
Your folio must be uploaded and submitted via the Creative Application Platform (SlideRoom). There is a small fee associated with submitting your tasks which must be paid at the time of application unless you are eligible for a waiver. We recommend allowing plenty of time to prepare and submit your creative tasks. Applications after the published closing day cannot be accepted.
