This micro-credential is ideal for a diverse range of professionals aiming to develop leadership capabilities and knowledge.

This includes emerging leaders and those seeking to develop their leadership skills to match their technical expertise, with the aim of advancing into more senior positions.

Skills and learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Critically analyse conflict and negotiation situations in the workplace, including the mix of distributive and integrative issues and identify effective responses to them
  • Generate solutions to resolve conflicts and negotiate interest-based agreements through clear and actionable leadership principles and tactics drawn from an understanding of negotiation theory and evidence
  • Develop confidence in negotiation practice and skills through experience, via case analysis, negotiations simulations and negotiation role plays
  • Reflect upon theories and models to evaluate new ways to engage with superiors, peers and subordinates in ways that promote collaboration, co-operation, and enhance productivity.
Workload and assessment

This course runs over four weeks.

Your total time commitment is approximately 34 - 42 hours, which includes:

  • Guided learning
  • Individual or group-based experiential tasks
  • Self-guided learning and assessment tasks
  • At least one Zoom meeting with your tutor.

Assessment:

  • In-module written assessment tasks (30%)
  • Discussion forum and webinar participation (10%)
  • A leadership development activity proposal (60%).
Your digital certificate
Once you've successfully completed this course, you will be awarded your Effective Negotiation Melbourne MicroCert. This digital certificate will warrant the achievement of knowledge, skills and capabilities outlined in the learning outcomes. It may also include artefacts (such as videos and written material) related to both experiential and work-integrated learning, including translatable assessment that is practical to your professional life. You can also share your Melbourne MicroCert digitally and via social media by adding it to your personal platforms, such as LinkedIn. See example certificate.

Effective Negotiation is part of the Managing Teams series, which provides a pathway towards the subject MGMT90265 Managing Teams.

To use Effective Negotiation this way, you need to complete all four micro-credentials from the Managing Teams series, in any order you choose, and then apply for credit towards the subject MGMT90265 Managing Teams.

You can use the Adaptive Leadership series in a similar way by completing all four micro-credentials in that series, in any order you choose, then apply for credit towards the subject MGMT90264 Adaptive Leadership.
